If you like 6'4" wide receivers with enough speed to blow the top off of the secondary, then Maurice "Moe" Ways is your man.  Playing his first year of varsity football this past season he stormed onto the recruiting scene with a stellar junior campaign for the Yellow Jackets of Detroit Country Day.  Moe is starting to get a lot attention from schools so we talked about those schools, his interests, and his breakout season.  Moe was a natural when it came to answering questions but they didn't sound rehearsed.  He is a bright kid and said all of the right things.

Season:  Coming into the season we had expectations but we didn't have high expectations.  We knew we could be a good team but we didn't really know how good.  Within our locker room we had one goal and that was to make it to Ford Field for the state championship game.  Nobody really believed in us or thought that we could make it.  We won our first game and then lost our second game to University of Detroit Jesuit in a heartbreaker and people started to doubt us.  That game for me, personally, really motivated me and it motivated the team.  We went on to win our next 6 games and then lost one more to Brighton right before the playoffs started.  That game actually helped us because it humbled us a little bit right before the playoffs and made us change our mentality and get serious.  We really started playing well and blew through a few teams.  We had two shutout games.  We did lose in the state championship game but we feel like we put Country Day football back on the map.  It just made football more exciting at Country Day.

For me personally, it was my first year on varsity so it was a big step up from JV.  I came into the season a little nervous but i was definitely ready to step up to the challenge.  After the U of D game it changed my mindset because I dropped a ball on the last drive when we could've scored.  I took that game and tried to stay positive because I knew what it was like to fail and I wasn't going to let that happen again.  After that game, I came out of my shell.  I started working much harder, hitting the weight room harder, and putting in more time to get myself better.  I ended up with 51 catches, 957 yards, and 9 touchdowns.  That helped my name to start getting out there, so its been a big year for me.

Recruitment:  I'm hearing from Ohio State, Indiana, Northwestern, Iowa, Nebraska, and now Michigan.  I took a visit to Ohio State during the season and I enjoyed myself, that was the only visit I took during the season.  All of the Big Ten schools are giving me a little interest.  I don't have any offers yet but I'm getting a ton of letters everyday.  Iowa came in a couple of weeks ago and introduced themselves to me but other than that it's just waiting to see who's interested and what offers will come.  I'm really anxious just to see what offers come.

Feeling Michigan:  Man, Michigan.  That's my dream school.  I got up every Saturday to watch the Michigan game on ABC at noon or 3:30.  I grew up liking them.  My sister went there for her undergrad and graduated so that connection was there.  I just grew up a fan.  I have a lot of family in Ohio too, so whenever The Game is on there's a lot of trash talking and back and forth.  I was able to go the Ohio State game in 2007 and that was a great experience.  I just grew up watching them every Saturday thinking I would love to get an opportunity to play for them, especially Coach Hoke.  I met him at the Sound Mind Sound Body camp this summer and he spoke to us.  I liked what he said and how he presented himself and what he said Michigan stands for.  Obviously its one of the top academic schools in the country too so its always been a part of me since I was growing up.  Playing for Michigan would be a dream come true.

Schools in the mix:  Michigan of course, I like Michigan State.  I like the west coast schools like UCLA, USC, and Arizona.  I took that visit to Ohio State so I like them too.  I like the Big Ten and the PAC 12.  That's where I see myself playing football in college.

Offensive style:  I just want to play in a big play offense.  I like teams that score with big plays and have a lot of momentum plays.  I like the uptempo types of offenses that score fast with big plays.  We play that style at Country Day so I'm kind of used to that.

If Michigan offers:  Man, first off I would be speechless.  It would be a dream come true.  It would just be a moment of awe.  Even though it would be a dream come true I would still take time to consider with my parents and see what they think.  I would want to weigh all of my options but they would definitely be a top contender.

Timetable for decision:  I don't really have a timetable right now.  I would like to have an idea heading into my senior year.  It would be nice to have at least a top 3 at that point.  I don't want it to be a prolonged process or drag it out.  I would like to have the security of knowing where I'm going to play at.  I don't want it to be a really long process but I don't want to rush it either.  If I could find a medium between the two that would be great.

I don't usually post every single word from a conversation, but I wanted to with Moe because this kid just gets it and I wanted to portray that.  He understands the tradition, what Michigan is all about, what Coach Hoke stands for, and he grew up watching and wanting to be a Michigan Man.  Mark it right now, Maurice Ways will be a member of the 2014 recruiting class.
