Derrick Green chooses Michigan! That sentence felt so good to type. This type of commitment has been a long time coming for Michigan who has been spurned by big time recruits during their "hat ceremony" over the past couple of recruiting cycles. Michigan has recruited extremely well but it seemed every time there was a publicized decision the Wolverines always came up just a bit short. Not this time. Green chose the Wolverines over Tennessee and Auburn, as well as just about every other university in the country. Green immediately factors into the running back picture for next season as a true freshman and becomes a scary-good 1-2 punch with fellow freshman, DeVeon Smith. Put these kids behind the mammoth offensive line Michigan is starting to build and we might be looking at something special in a year or two. Obviously Green has not played a down in the Big House yet but he seems to be a can't-miss type of talent. He has the perfect build to be the bell-cow type of running back Al Borges wants, but he also has sub 4.4 speed which is extremely rare for a back that weighs 220 lbs. Michigan has a spot for one more commitment but at his point we should all consider the 2013 class a massive success. National Signing Day is still 2 weeks away but the Wolverine family can breath easy today as the future of the Wolverine backfield gave his verbal commitment.

I was nervous, but he made the right choice. Go Blue!
ReplyDeleteI was definitely nervous when he started to pick up that Tennessee hat. GO BLUE
ReplyDeleteWatching it LIVE, when the screen went up and the bottom of the "Blue" Meechigan jersey started appearing, I knew what it meant ~ but i still had to rub my eyes like waking up from a sweet dream. I couldn't believe it. Go Blue!!!!!

ReplyDeleteSmith and Green will be one hell of a one, two punch for years to come.
That's one commitment down and one to go unless something happens with Poggi.
Go Blue
Well played Green. You almost had me when you picked up that Michigan hat then put it down shaking your head

I never knew that Green is a converted OL that lost 50+ pounds to become the player he is today. Can't wait to see this guy on the field.

Wow, I just about dropped a duece when he started to walk off the stage. Thought he was really "shocking the world" picking a fourth unknown school. I was elated to see the screen rise up to reveal that sweet Maize and Blue jersey. Should have been Garnett and Diamond last year. Should have been Treadwell this year. It will be interesting to see if Poggi stays Blue and who gets the last spot. Sooo glad to have you in the fold #27. ps. I like the bleached hair from the past. It looks like a true wolverine.
ReplyDeleteMaize & Blue make Green.
ReplyDelete(not to be confused with the shade of green found in Lansing)
i just read from tom vanhaaren that the TE smythe just committed to notre dame.
