Michigan Offers Joshua Alabi

Position: Defensive End (Strong)
Ht/Wt:
6'5"/260 lbs.
Location: Cass Tech High School - Detroit, MI
Class: 2015
Offers: Michigan

Minutes after I learned of the offer going out to Cass Tech running back Mikey Weber, news came across my phone that the Wolverines had offered his teammate and classmate, Joshua Alabi as well.  Alabi is a raw talent, but stars on both sides of the ball for his Technicians.  He is listed as a defensive end on the recruiting sites but some think he may have a future on the offensive line depending on how his body changes over the next two years.  I spoke with Joshua soon after he received his first offer and he was very open and honest with his answers.  I think Michigan has a battle for Alabi's services.

The offer:  I was in my english class and they called me and Mikey down to the office.  When we got there they told us to head to the weight room and when we got there Coach Wilcher was in there and he just told us that Michigan was offering both of us.

Feeling the offer:  It just made me feel blessed, it feels really good because it's Michigan.  That's one of the top colleges and it being my first offer, it just feels really good.

Cass Tech pipeline:  It really doesn't affect me too much.  I'm going to go where I feel comfortable at.  I am real close to Dave Dawson, I mean he's an All-American and he works really hard so that is one thing.  But if I feel comfortable at Michigan then I'll go there or if I feel comfortable at Michigan State I'll go there.

Who's your team?  I've been cheering for Florida growing up.  I'm not really sure how I got hooked on Florida but that was just the team I loved growing up.  Feeling Urban Meyer then?  Yeah I love Urban Meyer.  Ohio State could end up in the mix.  If I feel comfortable over there then maybe, but I have two more years to decide so...

Visited Michigan:  I visited Michigan twice and I've visited Michigan State once.  Obviously I visited to go to the games but it's actually really comfortable.  The field is obviously huge, The Big House, a ton of people, the student section is real loud.  The coaching staff is solid, you can tell they work hard and I like the way the defense is used.

Top group:  Michigan will definitely be in my Top 5 throughout the process.

Josh didn't really sound enamored with Michigan as he kept mentioning Michigan State, talked about Ohio State having a chance, and his boyhood love for Florida.  Alabi is going to receive a lot more attention over his next two years of high school and Michigan doesn't appear to be his leader by any means.  Michigan obviously has a lot of influence at Cass Tech but this kid is far from a lock.

  3. I'm sure Dawson and company will persuade him to go Blue and with Michigan turning things around and landing the likes of Green and Big Time talent it will be great to be a Michigan Wolverine!
