Travis Smith Update

The coaches are definitely taking their time when it comes to evaluating the quarterbacks from the 2014 class as they have yet to offer one.  2014 QB Travis Smith out of Ithaca (MI) is a name that keeps popping up on different Michigan boards and recruiting sites.  The more I talk to Smith the more I think he may get an offer soon.  Coach Borges stopped by Ithaca High School on Wednesday to check in with Travis.  Travis said they mostly just talked about the recruiting process as a whole and also discussed where Smith was on the Wolverine recruiting board.  Smith said, "He (Borges) said I'm towards the top and there are only a couple more quarterbacks that they want to check out."  I told him that I thought that sounded promising and asked if they mentioned an offer and he said they had not at this time.  He told me that the coaches will be visiting again next month to watch him throw.  Smith injured his shoulder in the state championship game and has been cleared to start throwing again this week.  This makes me think that the coaches just want to make sure his injury won't affect his future because he looks good on film and put up big numbers this past season.  He is about 6'2" and 200 lbs. and runs very well.  He would be a nice pocket quarterback with the ability to hurt teams with his legs if a play breaks down.  Borges clearly likes this kid so an offer wouldn't surprise me but they are being very picky.  I think the throwing session next month may be the deciding factor.

  1. I like this guy. Gives you kind of a Devin Gardner type threat. And if he doesn't work out at quarterback he can play WR
