2014 Names to Watch: Simmie Cobbs

Position: Wide Receiver
Ht/Wt:
6'4"/200 lbs.
Location: Montini Catholic High School - Lombard, IL
Class: 2014
Offers: None

Wide receiver is a position of need for the Wolverines in 2014 and at this time the coaches have offered 8 prospects with more sure to come.  I think Simmie Cobbs is a potential name to watch as he fits the mold that the coaches have targeted in the past.  He is tall and athletic excelling on the hardwood as well as the gridiron.  I had a chance to talk with Simmie and he came across as a very respectable young man with a good head on his shoulders.

Hearing from Michigan:  Yeah I've been hearing from them.  Jeff Hecklinski came and introduced himself and said we will talk more when he's allowed to contact me.  I wasn't able to talk with him much because we didn't have a lot of time but I hope to get more information when I have a chance to call him.

Feeling Michigan:  I think it's an awesome school.  I need to check out the campus but from what I've heard and seen I like it.  I've never been there but I'd like to check it out for a junior day or something.  I can definitely see myself in the maize and blue with the #1 on my back.  I know that's a special number but I think I could earn it.  I respect the special numbers because that player gave that number value to his team and he earned it.

Connections to Michigan:  I don't have really have a connection but I have been on a family trip to Michigan which was awesome.

Other schools in the picture:  I like Illinois because it's close and Ohio State because my father went there.  I like Indiana too because I know a lot of people there.

Simmie doesn't have an offer at this point in his recruitment but a big part of that is because he had to sit out his junior season.  He explained to me that the Illinois High School Association made him sit out because he transferred from a public school to a private school.  That will definitely put a damper on a players recruitment and explains why he doesn't have an offer at this point.  I fully expect him to pull in several offers and Michigan may be one of them given the fact that Coach Heck has personally made contact.

  1. Lets get him up to camp so the coaches can evaluate him first hand.
